About Nick
I have had motorcycles pretty much all my adult life. Went through a barren spell during the 80's but eventualy got back into it again in the 90's. From "trailees (dirt bikes) to sports bikes, I've pretty much had a mix of machines.
For the past 15 years I have been working for American employers in one capacity or another and so have been transitting the Atlantic Ocean regularly. Since the early days of movies like "Easy Rider" to the more recent "Wild Hogs" I have always wanted to ride the most famous highway in the world.
Whilst in college at Oxford in the early 90's I began to talk about this desire with a college tutor (Richard Bird) and we said we would love to do it. We lost touch for about 8 years during which time Richard managed to fulfill his dream and ride the 'Mother Road' and I know he would love to join us this time but he tragically passed away late last year.
Doug and I started to discuss the serious possibility back in 2004 after much jovial back and forth. We finally made a pact to do it and have been planning ever since.
I have had a Motorcycle in the USA since 2006 and have made about a dozen decent length trips since that time (including a mammoth trip from Boston (MA) to York (PA) to visit the HD factory there. I am gradually building up my experience and now have a pretty good grasp for the riding style and safety tips to stay alive on the US highway.
This trip offers me the opportunity to fulfill a lifelong ambition and to raise some much needed funds for my favourite charity. Please help if you can.
This will be a tough trip ..... but not as tough a journey as some youngsters have to make !
